The Visual Arts Library of the British Council, presently located near
Oxford Circus in London, is due to move into a much reduced space in the
early summer at the Council's Headquarters near Trafalgar Square. Despite
the use of compact shelving etc. certain parts of the library have to be
relinquished. One such component of the existing library is eleven feet of
files of ephemera documenting certain art institutions roughly from the
mid-1970s to the mid-1990s. (The library's artist files will NOT be
relinquished.)
I would like to offer this small collection to a single institution (unless
the originating institutions are at all interested), but if this plan does
not work out then the files can be cherry-picked - or, ultimately, will be
discarded.
The institutions are:
London
Arts Council of GB/ACE, Barbican Arts Centre, British Museum/British
Library, Crafts Council, Institute of Contemporary Arts, National Gallery,
National Portrait Gallery, Photographers Gallery, Riverside Studios, Royal
Academy, Tate Gallery/Contemporary Arts Society, VAGA, Victoria & Albert
Museum, Whitechapel Art Gallery.
Other Cities
Bristol: Arnolfini; Edinburgh: National Gallery of Scotland, Richard Demarco
Gallery, Scottish Arts Council; Glasgow - Third Eye Centre/CCA; Liverpool -
Tate.
We also have continuations of most of these files up to the present (another
six feet?).
If you are interested or would like more information please get in touch.
