The British Council Visual Arts department would like to invite art
librarians to a combined sale and give-away of exhibition catalogues,
posters and other publications that have accompanied its overseas
exhibitions of UK contemporary artists' work in recent years. We also have
many duplicate publications on British art from other publishers, and
unwanted publications on the art of other countries, that have been included
in this offer.
We are giving art librarians the opportunity to come on the 1st afternoon of
the sale on Monday 20th January 2003 from 13:30 - 17:30 a day before we
throw the sale open to students and others. However if you cannot make this
date, you are welcome to join the wider community on the afternoons of
Tuesday 21st January and Wednesday 22nd January at the same times. The
sale will be held in the first-floor theatre at 11 Portland Place, London
W1B 1EJ (closest tube Oxford Circus). You will need to be able to take away
whatever you acquire, since we will not be posting items to purchasers.
Items on sale will include exhibition catalogues for artists such well-known
artists as Francis Bacon, Anish Kapoor, Mark Wallinger and Rachel Whiteread
published by the British Council as well as the various miscellaneous books
and catalogues that duplicate our library holdings. For art librarians only,
the first copy of any title will be free, second or third copies of the same
title will be sold at a very modest price.
If you wish to let other librarians know about this sale, please feel free.
If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact Andry
Moustras (details below). Otherwise we look forward to seeing you at the
sale. Please bring a copy of this email with you to show at reception.
