Message from Graham Cornish:
Dear colleague
As you will be aware, there is to be some new and quite far-reaching
legislation on copyright early in the New Year. We have now seen the draft
Statutory Instrument and can begin to understand its wide-ranging
implications for all those working in the LIS, museum and galleries and
media fields. All library or information services that provide any form of
copying or information delivery will have to change the way these are
managed in the very near future.
In order to enable library and information managers to sort out the
implications of this, Copyright Circle, in conjunction with Scottish Visual
Arts Group, is organising a one-day conference in the prestigious
Gymnasium of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh, on
the impact of the new copyright legislation on the way services are
managed. There will also be an opportunity to explore other copyright
issues during the day. Licensing is obviously a major element in any
future library and information plans so we are fortunate in having Jim
Macneilage from the Copyright Licensing Agency as a speaker. Jim will also
say something about the relationship between CLA and DACS and what is on
offer there.
I attach the draft programme and booking form as you may wish to attend or
send a member of staff.
As copyright becomes an increasingly complex and yet important area, you
may like to take a look at the Training and Advice services offered by
Copyright Circle at the website www.copyrightcircle.co.uk

©opyright Circle is organising a one-day conference on the impact of new
copyright law on information and library services - and others. The new
law is expected to come into force on December 22nd this year. We now know
what the new law will say, give or take a few details. We also need to
begin a "shopping list" for other changes we would like to see in existing
legislation. This conference will give a chance to exchange views others
working in the LIS field. Details below.
