I have ordered slides from N.America many times and never paid import duty
until this September, when I was unexpectedly hit with the £40 demand. The
postman's explanation (off the record, of course) was that Parcel Force can
only check a very small percentage of the huge number of parcels they
carry, so being charged or not is just a matter of luck!
