Dear all,
I'm in charge of the library for Christie's Education (no responsibility for
catalogues!), but I thought I'd try and clear things up. Here's the official
response from our catalogue dept - contact details included if you want more
information.
Hope it helps, Sally!

Subject: RE: paying Christie's catalogue subscriptions
A short explanation of the new subscriptions: We have moved from a
time-based to an issue-based subscription model. The subscriptions are
based on a number of issues that approximates a year of sales. The benefit
for the client is that they get the exact number of catalogues ordered. If
a sale is postponed or cancelled, the subscription automatically extends to
the cover the next sale, whenever that happens to be. The subscription
price is based on the over-the-counter catalogue price plus a 10% discount.
Shipping charges are also reduced. As an added benefit, subscribers may be
receive complimentary catalogues is sales are added in their area(s) of
interest. To ensure subscriptions do not lapse, the renewal letters are now
sent when the subscription is about to expire and not on an annual basis.
If there are additional questions or concerns regarding the new
subscriptions, they should be directed to the Catalogue department in
Vauxhall or directly to my attention at the details below.
Thanks,
Nicolas

Subject: paying Christie's catalogue subscriptions
Am I alone in experiencing problems with payments for Christie's catalogues?
In the past I have paid one cheque once a year for a subscription to a
number of Christie's art sales. However, Christie's have recently been
sending invoices for individual sales as they come up for renewal. The
first time I queried this I was told to ignore them, and wait for an annual
invoice. Last time I phoned I was told that I have to pay each individual
renewal as it comes through. A written complaint has failed to produce any
response at all!
I'd be grateful to know if anyone else has experienced this problem and, if
so, whether they've managed to resolve it.
Thanks
