Hi Sebastian
Oxford University has 603 Web servers, according to Netcraft.com
(catching up with Cambridge which has 669 - some of which are probably
routers, printyers, etc).
"An Update Of A Survey Of The Numbers of UK University Web Servers"
was published in March 2002 at
<http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue31/web-watch/> which profiles the nos. of
Web servers in UK HEIs.
The current survey doesn't claim to report on all Web servers, just
on the main institutional server - this neds to be borne in mind when
interpreting the figures. Note, though, that Oxford (and Cambridge and
the other usual suspects) are unusual in having quite so many Web
servers - according to the surveys of Web server numbers, over 70 HEIs
had fewer than 10 servers.
