Well I wouldn't go that far Kenneth, but I can see your point.
On the other hand, to smear Hank Sr that way, well, that's just plain
wrong. Whatever we think of his voice, & its rawness appeals to some (I
rather like some others' interpretations: take The Cowboy Junkies' version
of 'So Lonesome I could cry'), he was, I suggest, a folk poet of some grace
& talent.
I would ask if all those duh obvious points you think the piece made about
Dubya _are_ that obvious to everyone. To 'us' (whoever 'we' are), perhaps,
but apparently not to a lot of voters out there. On the other hand, they
are, precisely, the people who won't ever see this attempt at satire, &
there I'd agree with you: it's a rather poor attempt, lacking the wit, the
intelligence, that smart satire has to have.
Still, better the anger, however ill-espressed, than nothing at all?
