I am sure this is a hoary old chestnut, but I'll press on regardless. At the
risk of offending the School Crossing Patrol Warden community these guys are
'lollipop' men and ladies.
Does anyone know of a suitable standard for the ongoing health assessment of
this group of immensely part-time (but not without risk) workers? There
seems huge variability in screening standards from one employer to another.
Do they even need screening for vision and hearing tri-annually, annually or
just on positive response to periodic questionnaire?
Are there any exclusion criteria for their employment - clearly vision
impairment might be a reasonable factor, but what about hearing impairment
or even grip strength - think about the size of the lollipop in inclement
weather?
I have no problem in assessing the risk and implementing a range of
screening programmes if the risk control system suggests the need, but
surely someone has a more definitive answer than risk assessment and local
decision?
Any help gratefully received and although it is somewhat belated, Happy New
Year - yes that was only 16 days ago.
