I agree with Lucy, I don't find diagnosing (labelling) a condition as
helpful as assessing an employee's functional capacity to do their job.
Whilst not using Becks or any other inventory, we might find though that we
are enquiring in some common areas that might impact on work e.g sleeping
patterns etc.

I personally do not find diagnosis a useful tool in OH,
especially since we are now measuring symptoms against the DDA criteria for
the purposes of employment.
I apply a functional assessment based on activities of daily
living (yes that old chestnut!).
From there I evaluate:
- what their capabilities and limitations are in relation to
work
- what intervention I feel would be most appropriate eg
referral to GP, practice nurse, CPN team, fast-track counselling (where
available)
Would be very interested in a group debate on this one.
