I am looking for prices (and policies) from museums and heritage
organisations which provide images for publication (as opposed to private
use!). Can anyone provide any comparitors? I am aware that commercial
picture libraries do charge quite a lot, but it would be useful to find out
what museums charge, if they manage their image IPR commercially!
The reason I am requesting this information is to compare our publication
charging policy with similar museum image libraries. I am involved in
managing a countywide archive and museum image database (low res images are
available at no cost) which has images of a wide range of collections
(mainly of local and sub-regional interest - not many Rembrandt's are
available unfortunately). It has been comparatively easy to establish
personal image sales (for high res images) but setting a reasonable
publications charging tariff has been a little more difficult.
Any pointers?
