In November STN is holding three additional public training courses free-of-
charge at The Royal Society of Chemistry’s premises in Cambridge. All are
geared towards users who have experience of STN Basics. Attendees will
have the opportunity to exercise the techniques discussed during the skills
practice sessions.
Tuesday 25 November 2003 10.00-15.30
Effective CAplus Searching and Presentation of Results in Tables and
Reports
This course will focus on searching Chemical Abstracts, now incorporating
data from 1907, using indexing, the CA Lexicon and roles, and also
techniques for retrieving the older substance and subject records. The
results of the skills practice sessions will be formulated into tables and
reports using STN Express’s post-processing tools.
Wednesday 26 November 2003 10.00-15.30
Searching for Preparative and Property Data on STN
Strategies for exploring the two largest collections of substance data,
Chemical Abstracts and Beilstein, via structure, name and formula searching
will be discussed. The focus and aim will be to find preparations and
property data. Simple techniques for searching for substances within a
range of a specific property will also be covered.
Thursday 27 November 2003 10.00-13.00
Keep Alert on STN!
The value of maintaining a state-of-the-art knowledge of one’s area of
research interest is obvious, yet challenging. Considering the volume of
published scientific literature, techniques are needed to identify the
relevant information in a consistent and periodic manner and to deliver
this information in the most useful format. Learn how to set up manual and
automatic alerts to keep on top of the competition.
Please contact us stating which course(s) you would like to attend. Either
send an email to [log in to unmask] or phone on 01223 432110. Details will
be sent out approximately 10 days before the date of the course.
