Personaly I agree that we should be proud of being librarians, I for one am.
However it does seem (to me at least) that this is unfortunately not the
case in general - as evidenced by the membership voting for the name change
from 'Library Association' to Chartered Institute of Library and Information
Professionals!

At least people know what a library is and a Librarian is a pretty well
understood title. It is this image of the title we should improve not try to
disguise what we do with a string of independent meaningless words, which
now get high profile as someone has, deservedly I am sure, won a prize, but
not promoting the word Librarian.
Dentists are feared but they don't change their name to quality molar
inspection, maintenance and preventative specialists!
