Dear Colleagues

JISC Consultation: DeHavilland's Public Affairs Briefing (PAB). The PAB is
an extremely powerful product which provides a unique level of political
information and research. DeHavilland is Britain's leading information
service company focusing on political, governmental and broadcast news
(product summary at the bottom of this message; also see
http://www.dehavilland.co.uk/. For details of JISC Collections, see
www.jisc.ac.uk and click on 'Collections')

Can you host a product demonstration at your institution? We seek feedback
from: librarians and Learning Resource Centre staff, students, teachers and
lecturers, managers, communications, marketing and PR staff.

Due to the complexities and functionality of DeHavilland, we feel that it
is far better to conduct this community consultation by offering product
demonstrations at institutions around the country. The following locations
have been suggested:

 Edinburgh
 Glasgow
 Newcastle
 Leeds
 Manchester
 Sheffield
 Birmingham
 Nottingham
 Bristol
 Exeter
 Southampton
 Oxford
 Cambridge
 London

What to do if you are interested in hosting a demonstration

If you are from an HEI at or near any of the above locations, and would be
willing to host a demonstration for an hour and a half - between now and up
to and including April 17th, 2003, please email Paul Davey (JISC
Communications Officer): [log in to unmask] with the subject header: JISC
/ DeHavilland Consultation, stating your name, institution, address, direct
telephone number and email. Once these details have been received, we will
forward them to Joanna Davies, DeHavilland Business Development Executive,
who will then contact you personally to arrange the event with you.

Why do JISC and DeHavilland need to consult the community?
JISC conduct community consultations to ensure that we can offer
resourcesand products of real value to the Education community. Therefore
consultations enable us to:

- Collate responses about the potential of these products. We then present
this feedback to the JISC Committee for Content Services - for an
explanation of what they do, see:
http://www.jisc.ac.uk/index.cfm?name=jccs_home - who make decisions as to
whether a resource or product will be funded for acquisition;
- Formulate a business plan, also presented to the JCCS;
- Negotiate the best possible deal with the publisher/supplier;
- Collate information about how the product might be developed or enhanced
so as to best provide for the relevant stakeholder's needs.

What are the timescales?
JISC anticipate providing a case for this product to the JCCS at a meeting
in May, 2003. It is impossible at this stage to say exactly when thereafter
we could offer the product, should the proposal be accepted, but it would
be likely before the end of 2003
