Mieko,
We have had a post such as you describe (we called it Information Resources
Manager : electronic journals) and I am convinced now that this is not the
way forward. We are now moving to a what is in effect a serials librarian
(though we will call it Information Resources Manager!!). The complications
of e journals dependent on h/c subs, the need to cancel h/c and order e,
tracking access to e subs, dependent on subscriber nos. for h/c etc, are
all reasons why I think that we need someone who can take an overall view
and responsibility. Depending on how you structure the post, there may also
be budget management issues.
Difficult to prove how it has improved service to users. I suppose an
obvious area is the integration of e and h/c subs on your catalogue or web
pages, or anything that raises the profile of your resources. Good luck,
whatever you decide to do. Jane
