Kirsty
I know you asked Louise, but can I answer as well. At Edge Hill I use easy Links e.g. http://www.bids.ac.uk/journals/browse/bpl/abac?mode=direct for Abacus
Reader follows that link from opac or my web pages. They are taken straight to the title page of Abacus with issues for 2002 and 2003. Ingenta does not know who they are * guest at top right corner even if already used Athens account with another resource.
They find the article they want and ask for full text. The are presented with this message
"You are not recognised as a subscriber to this journal. If you are a subscriber, please enter your user name and password in the left-hand toolbar.
This article is available for purchase.
$32.71 plus tax
The exact price (including tax) will be displayed in your shopping cart before you check out. You will be able to remove this item from your shopping cart at any time before you have completed check-out."
The obvious two options (to them) are continue with ingenta (and system still does not know they are an Edge Hill student) or add to cart at 32 dollars. They just do not see the username box at bottom left and in fact on my home computer the Athens login is right off the screen
Ingenta Select is marginally better. Reader clicks on
http://www.catchword.com/cl=2/vl=9675746/nw=1/rpsv/catchword/bpsoc/0261510x/contp1.htm for British Journal of Developmental Psychology
They are taken to vol./issue option. Go to View option and are presented with an abstract
Do have to scroll down and finally a more obvious username and password box and then Athens option
Ideally I would like them to authenticate before they go into the journal as they do with Swets or failing that the Ingentaselect option is preferable to Ingenta but colleagues might have different views
We are trialling an electronic journal system which gives several URLs for same journal
Take Addiction: 4 options
Proquest and Swetswise: ask for Athens authentication before you go into the journal but then takes you right to that specific journal
Synergy lets you go right into the full text then denies access BUT gives you the options immediately:
"1. If you already have an online subscription please login at the top of this page.
2. To purchase an online subscription to this journal please visits the journal homepage.
3. You can purchase immediate access to this article for 30 days through our secure web site for US$15.00 using a credit card. If you have not yet logged in, please enter you username and password at the top of this page and click "Login" and then click "Buy now" below. If you have not yet registered then click "Register" at the top of this page first. For more information see help."
And Synergy has an Athens box at top of the screen when first access the journal
I am sorry for length of this email but I am sure colleagues agree we get more queries about ingenta than other providers (except possibly where the immediate/obvious login box for some resources is not the Athens one but that is another story and for another mailing list!)

Morning Louise-
Can you just clarify this for me? Are you using Easylinks to get to journal
home pages? If so, you can log in to Athens from those pages and you'll be
directed back to where you were. Or are you using different links?

Subject: Ingenta and Ingenta Select direct links
Dear all,
Now that the main page URLs for Ingenta and Ingenta Select have changed to
go directly to Athens login has anyone been able to work out if you can make
a direct journal URL move in the same direction (i.e. to prompt for login
with Athens)?
thanks
Louise
