Postdoctoral Position
Crustal and sedimentary seismic modelling of the Porcupine and Rockall
basins, offshore Ireland
The combined offshore research consortium of the Dublin Institute for
Advanced Studies (DIAS), University College Dublin (UCD) and GeoPro GmbH
of Hamburg have been involved in the acquisition, modelling and
interpretation of wide-angle seismic data from the Irish offshore since
the 1980s.
We hope to have a Postdoctoral position available very shortly to work on
projects involving the modelling and interpretation of new wide-angle
seismic reflection/refraction profiles acquired recently in the Rockall
and Hatton Basins and across the Hatton Continental Continental Margin.
The projects will involve the integration of the results with other
seismic, borehole and geological information. The project is part of an
evaluation of the crustal and sedimentary structure of these frontier
regions on the European Atlantic Margin.
The objectives of the project are to (a) produce a detailed crustal and
sedimentary model for the HADES profiles in the Hatton Basin and across
the Hatton Continental Margin, (b) to integrate the results of the
wide-angle modelling and interpretation into the other available
geophysical and geological information from the region and (c) to provide
a crustal and sedimentary cross-section model through the westernmost
sedimentary basins and the continental/oceanic transition of the Hatton
region. The researcher will work closely with another postdoctoral
researcher and two PhD students working on related topics in the
Rockall/Hatton/Porcupine region, as well as existing members of the team
from DIAS, UCD and GeoPro.
The position will be for a fixed term of 2 years with a starting salary
within the range 32,000 - 35,000 Euro, depending on experience. S/he
should ideally have experience in wide-angle seismic
refraction/reflection modelling, or a related field.
