I had the same trouble with XP. Starting bet from the cygwin command
line does work, though. Since I don't really use the GUI on my Windows
machine I never put much effort into finding the problem's cause, but
I guess it might have to do with the path not being found.
Additionally, you might want to store your images where cygwin can
find them "natively" (e.g. /usr/images or something), since the
handling of Windows paths gives trouble at times (\ vs. / and the
like).
