Just to emphasis that while post codes are quite a useful way of
locating properties they are, like phone area codes, constantly
changing.
Postal towns (the location of the appropriate sorting office), for a
given address are unlikely to change, so you could have a postal address
field.
Thank you

Hello Robin, Andrew,
Thanks for both your comments.
The existing text of the Monument Inventory Data Standard (MIDAS) for
Locations includes a section on this, under the key issue:
"Area reference or co-ordinates?"
...with the recommendation:
"Recommendation: MIDAS inventories should include grid references for
entries, even in areas where address information is also available.
This is
especially important for archaeological monuments. Grid reference
information is independent of any future changes in address or area
information. Grid references also create a compatibility between
inventory
entries and GIS systems. Current address information should be recorded
(at
least County, District and Civil Parish) in inventories where no GIS
system
is available."
Does this address your concerns adequately, or does it need further
work?
Ed
