Course Details:
Ideal for DIY beginners, this course de-mystifies many practical skills, and
explains environmentally-friendly ways to carry out many common DIY tasks,
such as decorating, brickwork and rendering, plumbing, carpentry and
electrics, and also covers suppliers / buying materials, fixings and timber.
· Decorating: limewashes, natural paints and finishes, the benefits
of eco-paints for your health, your home and the environment
· Brickwork / rendering: lime, slaking lime, making and using lime
renders and mortars, bricklaying
· Plumbing: soldering, compression joints, pipework, tap washers,
fittings
· Carpentry: timber / materials, methods of fixing / construction
· Electrics: basic wiring, renewables
· Suppliers / buying materials
· Health and Safety

Course Details:
This course is about how we can reduce our impact on the natural
environment. Find out if you are ready to provide your own housing from
natural materials, renewable energy, carbon-neutral road fuel, organic food,
solar hot water, and to deal with your own waste to provide useful compost.
Basic information from all our courses will be introduced, as well as
discussions on how we can live more cheaply, happily and in harmony with
nature.
· Housing: natural constructions, straw-bale building,
eco-renovation, lime, natural paints and finishes
· Food: organic gardening, keeping chickens
· Water: rainwater collection, greywater recycling
· Renewable energy: wind generators, photovoltaics, solar hot water
· Transport: how to make biodiesel
· Waste: compost toilets, composting and worm farming
· Lifestyle & work: communities, co-ops, localization, credit
unions, LETS systems, farmers markets, veg box schemes
