Dear Colleagues,

Every year around this time, I invite friends and colleagues to ask
their colleagues and students to subscribe to Design Research News.
My purpose in this request is moving the field of design research
toward the critical mass we require for greater progress in our
research activities and to build the deeper and more robust research
community that comes with increasing population. Because many of the
themes and topics of DRN also affect research training in cognate
fields in the arts and sciences, I am sharing the invitation with a
few related fields.

This letter is a request that you invite your colleagues and students
to sign up for a free subscription to the international monthly
newsletter, Design Research News. I would be grateful if you will
forward this invitation to your colleagues. I'm especially eager to
recruit more research students this year. In making a few sample
surveys, we have learned that only a tiny fraction of research
students in the arts and design know of this newsletter. Since this
is an excellent source of research information, we hope that you will
alert your students to the value it offers them in developing their
work as researchers.

Several features of the newsletter are of great use to research
educators in fields that are new to doctoral education, including
regular book reviews that focus on research methods and research
training. Obviously not all material here will be useful in drawing
research, but there is much that will apply.

Design Research News is a free, monthly email newsletter with
information on design and design research. The Design Research
Society publishes the newsletter as a professional and educational
service. Dr. David Durling, director of the Advanced Research
Institute of the Staffordshire University School of Art and Design,
edits it. It is distributed through the UK academic email facility,
JISCMAIL.

Design Research News publishes information on:

* projects,
* exhibitions,
* conferences,
* funding,
* competitions,
* articles, and
* books

for an international audience of experts in design research, design
practice, and design education.

DRN covers all areas of design. Fields and subject areas include:

* industrial design,
* graphic design,

* engineering,
* architecture,
* systems design,
* design management,
* CAD,
* ergonomics,
* psychology,
* computer science,
* information design,
* informatics, and
* related subjects.

Design Research News is NOT a discussion list. It is a newsletter
that we send once a month.
