Subject: Theses in Progress list and forum
A collaborative of graduate students is launching a new incarnation of
the UK and Eire Classical Theses in Progress listing at the Institute
for Classical Studies, available at the Pankur forum:
http://www.sas.ac.uk/icls/pgforum
Since a consequence of the Data Protection Act is that all information
of this kind has to be explicitly approved by each student, details and
permissions will be collected by a network of postgraduate
representatives from each department across the country. This network is
partly in place already, but many more volunteers are still needed.
We would be grateful if listmembers would help to disseminate this
announcement and encourage their graduate students to contribute their
own details and/or get involved as local representatives or in any other
capacity. Once this listing is more comprehensive, Pankur will provide
an invaluable tool for postgraduates (and others) to find out about
topics of research currently in progress, related to their own work, and
give them the opportunity to get in touch with other students in their
field.
The website contains the listing of thesis titles so far collected
(http://www.sas.ac.uk/icls/pgforum/theses/). Pankur is also a forum for
the collection, dissemination, and discussion of other topics of
interest to classics postgrads (and others), including: a list of
conference announcements and calls for papers (with web addresses or
emails); sources of funding collected and summarised (in progress);
information and discussion on teaching opportunities for postgraduates
(forthcoming); advice on publication; a discussion group (the
"Bouleuterion"), for discussion of these or any other issues of interest
to classics postgrads. (The Bouleuterion is complementary to the
announcement list recently launched by J. Prag.)
The Bouleuterion is the only part of this site that is limited to
postgrads only; we hope that the rest of the forum will be of interest
to colleagues at all levels. Please feel free to browse and send any
comments to the webmaster.
Best regards,
