Search for Assistant Editor
The editorial board of Wadabagei: A Journal of the Caribbean and its
Diaspora announces a search for an assistant editor to be based in the
United Kingdom.
The editorial board of the journal is inviting applications and nominations
of interested scholars committed to the journal’s mission and
interdisciplinary scope. The new assistant editor will assume
responsibility as of March 1, 2004. Main responsibilities include
solicitation and processing of suitable manuscripts, peer review and
revision process, ranking of accepted manuscripts, collaboration with the
editor, a second assistant editor and the editorial board, as well as
promotion of journal.
The editorship requires care, tact, judgment, and efficiency. Authors have
a right to expect that their submissions will be evaluated fairly,
courteously, and promptly, but securing appropriate referees is not always
an easy task. The assistant editor contacts most potential referees and
receives their reports by email. Referees do not always agree, and the
editor must evaluate their evaluations. Most articles are significantly
revised before final acceptance, and the assistant editor frequently advises
authors on matters of both substance and style.
The position requires a serious commitment to the field of Caribbean
Diaspora Studies as demonstrated by an established reputation as a dynamic
scholar and teacher. Those interested should submit a proposal including,
but not limited to, the following: (1) their curriculum vitae; (2) their
views of the future of Caribbean Diaspora Studies; (3) a statement detailing
the expected extent of potential support provided by their home institutions
(e.g., student or graduate assistants, postage, telephone, office space,
word-processing facilities); and (4) a statement of support from the
department chair and/or dean.
The editorial board will begin to review applications immediately, and
intends to select a new assistant editor by late January 2004. Preliminary
inquiries about the position are encouraged. Applications and requests for
further information may be directed to Holger Henke, Ph.D., Assistant
Editor, Wadabagei: A Journal of the Caribbean and its Diaspora,
