The "e" after the "r" signals that the word is pronounced with a long vowel.
Thus phonetically identical with the more familiar form of "cheers".
I could have been ultra-clever and used the medieval Scottish lengthening
orthographic signal -- thus, "cheirs" -- but I thought that might tax your
tiny brain.
Even as it is, pearls before swine, you totally missed the point.

Other Place -- it's a parallel universe I was talking about, wasn't it?
