The two devices are normally quite different technologies.
The red diode laser is a simple diode that is quite robust and should
have a life time of many 10's of thousands of hours.
The green "diode" laser is uaually a frequency doubled Nd:YAG and
lifetimes are more the order of many thousands of hours.
You need far less output power with the green laser because the reduced
scattering gives intinsically better line
definition on skin. However I do not believe that that there is a huge
advantage to be gained from running at lower powers. [not too sure on
this].
The price difference mW for mW is still considerable[ [green >>red}

From the US Physcis list, can anyone confirm/deny this?

our facility is considering green diode lasers. our accelerator

has heard that the green lasers have a shorter life than the red ones.
