John
Earlier this week I was providing some laser safety training in Cardiff
and Gareth Thomas (local specialist inspector for radiation, HSE} was
also providing
feedback on the reports from recent inspection of NHS Trusts.
It was illuminating to say the least and I have a lot of empathy with
the evidence he presented.
Some of the issues we have been trying to address for years and it
might well be useful for the HSE to take a more proactive role.
Some of the issues, including those related to door interlocks, we
differ on.
The main thrust of the report was the notable absence of properly
constituted risk assessments.
In the light of his observations I shall be amending some of my audit/
risk assessments to take note of his comments.
Gareth was going to send me a compilation of the report findings
regarding laser use and I will ask if I can circulate this to the
mailbase.
Kind regards
Bill
