Hi
I wonder if any one can help me locate (IT, computer based) resources for a
new gallery that will be opening at Birmingham Museum in a couple months
time.
Its called ?Ways of seeing?
This gallery looks at the different ways in which the Western world has
viewed the art and artefacts of other cultures over the last century and a
half of museum collecting.
All these objects were collected as examples of material culture - or the
things we make as a society which reflect our own culture and world view.
Every society categorises the objects they make according to different
rules. What is artistic, beautiful or skilfully made in one society, or to
one person, may have an entirely different set of meanings for another.
It is the way we 'see' or 'understand' objects which will influence the way
we 'see' or 'understand' the people who made or used them
What do you think about when you see these objects?
Would your opinion be different if you were born in a different place or
time?
If you can suggest anything please contact me on:
