Paper proposals are invited for a William Blake panel at the 2004 NEMLA
convention in Pittsburgh, PA, March 3-7. In a recent interview published
simultaneously in Studies in Romanticism (Summer 2002, volume 41) and
Romantic Circles <http://www.rc.umd.edu/praxis/blake/about.html>, the
editors of the William Blake Archive were asked to anticipate developments
in Blake studies. Either in dialogue with this interview or as voices
crying in the wilderness, this panel asks the same question of the wider
academic community. Suggested topics include but are not limited to:
Conceptions of Blake's myth after Frye and after deconstruction
Teaching Blake in a new era of empire and imperialism
New historical understandings of Blake
Impact of developing media on understanding and utilizing Blake's
own innovations
Blake's sexual politics
Blake's relationship to Romanticism
Blake and popular culture
Blake's influence on contemporary writers and artists
Please send one-page proposals to Wayne C. Ripley at [log in to unmask]
edu by September 25. Accepted panelists must become members of NEMLA by
October 15, 2003. Membership forms can be found at <http:www.nemla.org>.
