FUTURE HISTORIES is one of the UK's leading independent cultural heritage
organisations in the area of black performance. Created to maintain
archives of African, Caribbean and Asian performance in the UK, the Black
Performance and Carnival archive collection exists to promote access,
education and research and raise awareness of the crucial need to preserve
black British cultural heritage.
RE-MEMBERING BLACK PERFORMANCE (RBP) is a FUTURE HISTORIES project supported
and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. As a contributor and participant
of the National Archives' Access to Archives (A2A) Programme, RBP will
re-assemble, organise, catalogue, encode and ensure the long term
preservation of two major theatre archive collections.
We seek a: -
Senior Archivist (F/T) - £21,000
· 35hrs per week / From Sept to end of Dec 03
· Location: Bounds Green, Middlesex University. To be moved to New
Southgate in November 2003.
· Must be available to start in early September
A summary of responsibilities:
· To work closely with the Creative Director;
· To preserve, organise, list and catalogue the NITRO Theatre Company
archive using ADLIB Archive system and to export the data to the A2A Central
Team;
· To catalogue data in conformity with accepted national and
international standards;
· Communication and reporting skills;
· Ideally you will also have knowledge of the performing arts sector
and black British cultural heritage.
