Unlocking Somerset's Past: Archives and Archaeology Online
The Somerset Archive and Record Service is pleased to announce the launch of
its online catalogue, which contains entries for all listed collections held
by Somerset Record Office, Bath & North East Somerset Record Office and
Weston super Mare Library.
The catalogue was launched by Professor Mick Aston (of Time Team) on 30
September as part of a joint event to celebrate the successful completion of
three HLF funded projects:
· Access to Somerset Archives: a three year cataloguing and retro-conversion
project.
· The Somerset Light Infantry Archive Listing Project: which has preserved,
catalogued and publicised the archive of Somerset's regiment.
· Unlocking Somerset's Historic Environment: a project to place the Historic
Environment Record online.
The event was the culmination of a series of talks and exhibitions held as
part of Archive Awareness Month. The online catalogue and information about
the Somerset Light Infantry can be seen online at
www.somerset.gov.uk/archives. The online HER can be seen at
www.somerset.gov.uk/heritage.
