* CALL FOR PAPERS AND POSTERS *
*******************************
The 2004 Young Statisticians' Meeting is to be hosted by the University of
Bristol from Monday 5 April until Wednesday 7 April 2004. The scientific
program will include an opening plenary lecture and a series of parallel
sessions, with a poster session and sponsors’ wine reception during the
evening of Monday 5 April. Details regarding the program and the meeting
will be posted at the conference web site
http://www2.maths.bris.ac.uk/YSM2004
as they become available. Please check the web site regularly.
This annual event is aimed at career-young statisticians. Typical delegates
are either in the final stages of a Ph.D. or have been working for up to five
years as a practising statistician in an academic, an industrial or a
business environment. The meeting has enjoyed considerable success and has
grown in recent years to a level where it now attracts upwards of 100
participants from the UK and abroad.
The conference provides a forum for participants to exchange research ideas,
both formally (through oral and poster presentations) and informally (over
lunch, dinner and at the evening receptions). The meeting is intended to
foster greater interaction between statisticians working in different fields.
We endeavour to make the meeting accessible to all by accepting the vast
majority of contributed paper/poster submissions and keeping the conference
fee as small as possible.
This year the conference organisers have decided upon a slightly altered
format. The main changes mean that the conference will be slightly longer
than in previous years. The conference will now start with afternoon tea on
the Monday and will end with breakfast on the morning of the Wednesday. The
conference fee will now include accommodation for two nights allowing the
conference dinner to take place on the Tuesday evening. The Monday evening
will be used as a poster session.
One of the main reasons for the change in format is to accommodate the
increasing numbers of delegates wishing to present their work at the
conference. Additionally, it is hoped that a slightly longer conference will
attract more statisticians from further afield and allow more time for
interaction and discussion between attendees.
