Enriching Access to Local Materials
A seminar jointly organised by the Cataloguing and Indexing Group in
Scotland (CIGS) and LOCSCOT, the Scottish local studies group.
The seminar will cover the emerging issues of widening access to local
materials for the genealogical tourist, the passing enthusiast and anyone
else who has an interest in Scotland’s rich cultural heritage.
In general, the speakers for the day will cover a varied and diverse array
of topics from digitisation of local materials, best value and social
inclusion to the pilot production of Scotland’s cultural portal, recognising
the importance of placing such developments firmly within the context of the
developing Scottish Collaborative Infrastructure. The day will close with a
look at the SPEIR (Scottish Portals for Education, Information and Research)
project, with a particular focus on the proposed Scottish Distributed
Digital Library and on the role of CoSMiC (Confederation of Scottish
Mini-cooperatives).
