Terence Robert Hastings Nelson was a mining engineer / geologist working at
the Ogofau Gold Mine, at Dolaucothi in Carmarthenshire (Wales) in the 1930s.
He was evidently very knowledgeable on the structure and working of the mine
- he was the author of very detailed three part article on the mine,
published in 1944, and written largely from memory whilst on active service
with the RAF during the 2nd world war. If any of his personal papers have
survived they could provide useful information on the mine and the early
(Roman occupation) workings found during the 1930s.
After the war he is recorded by the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy (he
was an Associate of the Institution) as being at Avoca, in Co. Wicklow,
Ireland (last record is 1961) and may have been working in the the mines.
Has any member come across him during research or maybe members working in
the industry knew him?
Peter
