Information flows to Black communities

Karen Chouhan will talk about the pitfalls and the underlying benefits
of good information flows and engagement with Black communities. She
will cover legislative requirements and practice, and discuss her
experience at the 1990 Trust, a national Black Non-Governmental
Organisation that is particularly concerned with active networks of
Black people for ensuring the delivery of Race Equality. The talk will
include the use of IT, paper based information, sustainable consultation
methods, collaborations and partnerships.
Karen is the Director of the 1990 Trust. She was born in Pakistan and
grew up in London before going to Leicester to study for a philosophy
degree. After completing her Masters' degree in "'Race' And Community
Studies" in Bradford at the height of Black British political activity
she became a founder member of the Black members organisation of NALGO
(now Unison). For 12 years she was Senior Lecturer at Leicester's De
Montfort University where she was the programme leader for the MA in
Community Education. Karen has also acted as an adviser on CILIP's
Social Inclusion policies.
LHCB evening meetings are free and open to all with a professional
