From one whom is on the other side of the Atlantic, I am very interested in these copyright developments. I would appreciate updates to this situation being posted on this listserv.

I have just heard that it is possible that the draft "Copyright Declaration"
suggested by the BL after the initial publication of the EU Copyright Directive
may have to change in the light of the Statutory Instrument which has been laid
before Parliament. The British Library are now consulting on this and hope to
be able to let us all know what the final definitive declaration is going to be
by the end of this week. In addition to this we still have to wait
Parliament's assent to the SI, although this is very likely to be given today or
tomorrow.
I'll let you all know as soon as I hear anything so that those of you (like us)
who have printed forms can get the new wording sent off to the printers.
In the meantime there is a useful article by Barbara Stratton at CILIP
available on the CILIP website at
http://www.cilip.org.uk/committees/laca/copyrightdir_oct03.html explaining
more fully the implications of the SI.
