CARIS is pleased to offer a two-day workshop on June 23 & 24, 2003 entitled
The Development of National Maritime Limits and the Application of Article
76 - A Practical Hands-On Workshop to Complete an Article 76 Desktop Study
Using all Currently Available Data Sources. The event will be hosted in
Reykjavik, Iceland, at the Radisson SAS Hotel Saga.
This workshop is scheduled for the convenience of those who plan to attend
the "Conference on Legal and Scientific Aspects of Continental Shelf
Limits" in Reykjavik June 25 - 27, 2003. Information on this international
conference, which will be hosted by the Law of the Sea Institute of Iceland
and the Center for Oceans Law and Policy, University of Virginia, can be
found at www.virginia.edu/colp/.
This unique practical workshop will focus on procedures used for EEZ and
Article 76 planning and work. A GIS software specialist will guide each
participant through the steps of a mock claim that demonstrates how various
data sources together with geodetic limit and boundary technology can be
used to best effect for achieving the most advantageous EEZ legal limits
and outer limit of the juridical continental shelf.
Each participant will work through a series of live hands-on exercises
using CARIS LOTS (Law of the Sea) software. All the best currently
available data sources will be used in the completion of a completed
Desktop study for an Article 76 application. These exercises will highlight
the wide range of data that is available in the public domain and review
its suitability for a desktop study and/or final submission.
The 2-day workshop is $500 (U.S. dollars). Register early as the class size
will be limited to 16 participants. Note that all computer equipment and
training material will be provided.
