No, you're right. Assuming the individuals were all registered into
standard space then you are viewing the results in the ICBM 152 space.
The reason the results are rendered on the mean (transformed) structural
image by default is that it is more meaningful than the template for the
group of subject you've actually scanned. If, for instance, you have by
chance scanned a few subjects with a particularly atypical anatomy within
a given region, then this will be clear from the mean structural but not
when shown on the template.
If I remember correctly, it's fairly easy to change this if you'd prefer
to see the results on the template brain.
