Description: This is the official web site of the Independent Review of the Fire Service, chaired by Sir George Bain, which was established in 2002 to review the operation and management of the Uk fire service. It provides information on the purpose of the review and access to its press releases and full text reports. The latter include its paper 'The Agenda to deliver a Modern Fire Service' which was published in November 2002. Topics covered include: the pay and conditions of service of firefighters and the operational requirements of the fire services.

New Angles on Iraq: Views of the Stimson Center's Experts
Description: This site provides access to the full text of a pamphlet published by the Henry L. Stimson Center in October 2002. It contains a number of short essays on issues relating to Iraq, Saddam Hussein and international security. Issues considered include: the United Nations weapons inspections in Iraq, whether the 'war against terrorism' should be extended to target military action against Iraq, and issues relating to regional security and US foreign policy. Users should note that the paper is in pdf format and therefore requires access to an Adobe Acrobat Reader for use.

European Union - Thirty-Seventh Report; Common Policy on Illegal Immigration
This site provides access to the full text of a House of Lords European Union Select Committee Report which was published as HL 187 session 2001-2 in November 2002.ISBN 0104001062. It reviews current EU immigration policy and argues that there is a need to adopt a common approach to counter illegal immigration. Suggestions for reform include the adoption of more positive action in the country of origin and the granting of legal status to long term immigrants.

Election Spending 2001
This site provides access to the full text of a report published in November 2002 by the Electoral Commission. It contains official statistical data on spending during the 2001 general election campaign by the UK Labour Party, Conservative Party, Liberal Democrat Party and other third parties. This includes information on expenditure on different types of advertising and publicity. Data is also available for some individual candidates. Users should note that the paper is in pdf format and therefore requires access to an Adobe Acrobat Reader for use.

American Political Prints 1766-1876
Description: This site is maintained by HarpWeek (Harpers weekly. It provides online access to a collection of several hundred digitised images of American political, prints, etchings and cartoons published between 1766-1876 from the holdings of the Library of Congress. These cover the full range of political issues including caricatures of politicians, the American Civil War, elections, political parties and the movement for the abolition of slavery. The database can be searched by subject keyword or browsed. Each entry is fully catalogued with extensive annotations on content taken from the catalogue compiled by Bernard F. Reilly Jnr.
