Dear all,
I am currently supervising an undergraduate project which is examining the
relationshiop between oral behaviours in childhood (specifically non-
nutritive sucking) and subsequent oral behaviours in adulthood
(specifically cigarette smoking and comfort eating).
I have found several textbooks that suggest Freud believed individuals who
become orally fixated in childhood are subsequently more likely to smoke
cigarettes or overeat in later life. However I have been unable to find any
studies that have attempted to empirically test this assumption.
I would be very grateful if you could suggest who I might contact to find
out more information about this topic.
Thank you in advance,
Brian
