The Freie Universität Berlin announces the following three openings at the
Department of Political and Social Sciences, Institute for Sociology:
Position rank: Full professor with tenure ("C4" according to the
German system).
Areas of specialization:
1. Macro-sociology, with special emphasis on internationally and historically
comparative research on social structures and/or institutions (reference
number P1).
2. Micro-sociology, with special emphasis on the cultural foundation of
social action (reference number K2).
3. Methods of empirical social research, with special emphasis on
longitudinal analysis and dynamic models for the analysis of individual
development and social change (reference number M3).
Qualifications: According to § 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act
(Berliner Hochschulgesetz) "habilitation" or comparable qualifications for
a teaching career in higher education are required.
Desirable research interests:
The Free University of Berlin is interested in recruiting applicants who
have a proven record in theoretically driven empirical and comparative
research and in linking the macro and micro levels of societies and cultures.
The successful applicants are expected to have experience in securing
external funding and in managing externally funded projects, as well as
international experience in teaching and research.

and Social Sciences, Institute for Sociology:

Area of specialization: Full Professor in Sociology. The successful
applicant will be required to provide teaching and research in sociological
theory and in the analysis of the societies of the United States and Canada.
Qualifications: According to § 100 of the Berlin higher education act

a teaching career in higher education are required
Desirable research interests:
The successful candidate is expected to cooperate with the other
disciplines represented at the Kennedy Institute (History, Literature,
Culture, Political Science, Economy) as well as with the Institute of
Sociology.
