No, it still happens today. In some places in the world dwarf tossing is
still a "sport" and some USA states have outlawed it. I think that dwarfism
is still seen as something you can laugh at or use as a put down. I have
heard it recently as an insult on several sitcoms... throwing the word
"dwarf" & "midget" around like these are images to be ashamed of. "You
stupid dwarf".... "that makes you look like a midget"... "I play spot the
dwarf with my kids" that last one was on the Johnny Vaugh show stated by
Will Self
Well, I for one am proud to be a "dwarf", but it's amazing how I get insults
hurled at me referring to my short stature. How often to you here the
saying.... "yeah, he's good looking, but look how short he/she is" I find it
amazing that someone would find others less valuable due to stature.
I'm on the BBC Disability Forum and we are working on images and how disabled
people are portrayed. I can't wait for that day I see a "dwarf" on
Eastenders or reporting the news and it has nothing to do with being short or
even disability. If you want to see what this "dwarf" gets up to check out
my website..... I'm now a proud Mommy of a wonderful little boy.
