Have you recently experienced discrimination for a reason relating to your
disability?
The Institute for Employment Studies (IES), has been commissioned by the
Disability Rights Commission and the Department for Work and Pensions, to
monitor the effectiveness of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995.
Have you recently experienced discrimination while accessing goods and
services? We are equally interested in hearing from people whose claims have
been lodged at a court, and people who have not, or not yet, opted for the
legal route.
Have you recently experienced discrimination in the area of employment? We
are particularly interested in hearing from people whose claims have not, or
not yet, been lodged at an industrial tribunal. We are also very keen to
speak to you if the case involved recruitment.
We cannot offer legal advice or other support, but your participation would
greatly assist this important research, and will help the Government to
understand how the DDA is working in practice, how easy it is for people to
take action under the Act, and any problems people have faced in using the
Act.
We wish to conduct case studies, ideally interviewing as many parties
concerned with the case as possible, including your advisor and a
representative from the company or organisation involved. We realise that
not all parties will be willing or able to speak with us in all cases, and
we will not contact other parties without your permission.
Interviews are planned to take place from January to March 2003 and may be
by telephone or in person.
If you think you can help we would be delighted to here from you. This is
the type of information which we would like to know at this stage:
A brief description of what happened
Your name and contact details
The nature of your disability
What stage the case is at (eg just made an initial enquiry; a letter of
complaint has been written to the organisation; a complaint/claim has been
lodged at an Industrial Tribunal/County Court /Sheriffs Court; the case has
been heard or settled)
Whether the complaint been successfully resolved from your point of view (it
may be too early to say)
