I've been in contact with Susan Tarr is Executive Director of Federal
Libraries and Information Centres on a related issue and I am pursuing
contacts in OMB and FirstGov. There has been interest in what the
Government of Canada has been doing with "Common Look and Feel" and
content
management. Metadata is closely tied to both these developments.

I agree with Thom's plan.
It seems important that we have some unput in the early stages. It
could
become a real problem if the US decides to go a non DC route; it will
certainly weaken our position and reduce the chances of there ever
being a
truly international, widely implemented metadata set. While it most
unlikely that the US will not choose DC as its core, we shouldn't
assume it
will.
