For everyone who wasn't watching the History Channel this morning, a true
story from World War One.
A woman was sitting in a railway carriage, obsessively counting the fingers
of one hand. One, two, three, four, five.....one, two, three, four,
five.....one, two, three, four, five....one, two, three, four, five.... The
other men in the carriage tried to ignore her, then began to quietly smile at
her obvious mental problem. Then one man spoke up. "Please don't make fun of
my wife", he said, "she has lost her wits and I am taking her to the lunatic
asylum. She had five sons, but has lost them all in The War".
Just another minor, unimportant, unstatisticated, cost of any war, I guess.
