I've been following the exchange between Patrick Stickler and Roland
Schwaenzl with some interest. With regard to the minting of URIs, Patrick is
right on target. Mint what you like, tell people how to interpret your URIs
if you like. Common schemes have a better chance of meaningful interchange,
but that is a question of usefulness an not legality.
On the technical aspects I would agree with Patrick about xsi: and the
relationship of RDF and XML Schema. But the RDF WG would do a lot of good
for the broader acceptance of RDF if they could manage to reach an
accommodation with XML Schema. Personally I think this will take
considerable revision and improvement of XML Schema. But the goal should be
cooperation and not either side's agenda. To have the two standards appear
to ignore each other is not helpful.
