Women’s Health: a life course approach
(RSVP attendance essential)
Abstract
Sources of risk for women’s health are not just linked to adult life
style but operate across the life course, and across generations.
Recent epidemiological research suggests that exposure to adverse
social and physical environments in early life leave enduring effects on
the body and on human behaviour. There are implications for
reproductive health (pregnancy outcomes and menopause), breast
cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, body dissatisfaction
and depression. The speakers on the panel will highlight some of the
key findings and common themes that emerged from a recent review
of the biological and social factors that have long term effects on
women’s health and discuss some of the underlying biological,
psychological and social pathways that may operate across the life
course. This will be followed by a discussion. Participants are invited
to e-mail their questions for the chairperson by 25/11/02 (e-mail: { GOTOBUTTON BM_1_ [log in to unmask]).}
The book ‘A life course approach to women’s health’ edited by
Diana Kuh and Rebecca Hardy (OUP 2002) will be on sale after the
seminar.
