Subject: Re: PBL course evaluations
The course experience questionnaire (CEQ) (Ramsden & Entwistle, from 1981
onwards) is a standard course evaluation tool, and does probe for some of
those things we hope to encourage in adopting PBL. An up to date version is
online at http://www.itl.usyd.edu.au/sceq2002/sceq_f.cfm (the standard tool
is section 1 only). However, there was an interesting paper recently,
Patricia M Lyon and Graham D Hendry, 'The use of the course experience
questionnaire as a monitoring evaluation tool in a problem-based medical
programme', Assessment and Evaluation in Higher Education, 27, 4, (2002)
suggesting that some of the CEQ items are not well suited to PBL courses.
It would be interesting to hear what others are doing, as we're in the
process of PBL design at the moment.
Regards,
Jan
