Robbie - you touch on an important aspect of education; the eductaion of
patients! If the patients won't believe the docs, then we must improve their
(docs/nurses)ability to educate, to help patients understand their
problems/illness. This is probably the commonest teaching situation, that we
all deal with daily; patient education. Doctors only think of passing
information to one another/nurses/med students etc, as teaching. 'Teaching '
patients is our primary role. Teaching models work v, efficiently for
patients...I use a 'set, dialogue, closure', type consultation, with
micro-summaries and repetion of important points.....etc etc etc....
