Ladies & gentlemen, I rest my case.
A thread about that most venerable subject, anatomy, was totally
hijacked by considerable diatribe on touchy-feeliness.
I've just had a lovely time in the RCS anatomy museum today in addition
to teaching on the basic surgical skills course, utilising my teaching
and communication skills to the full. (and no, I wasn't talking to the
pots, I was reminding myself of salient anatomical points!). Both
activities have refreshed me considerably.
The fact is, we are all too hung up on communication skills. These are
important, but should they totally efface the basics?
Sadly, I must conclude that all we are doing to the next generation
giving them the skill to communicate to the patient that they do not
understand what is wrong with them.
Quod erat demonstrandum............(anyone for a debate on the decline
of Latin?)
