That's not true the aneasthetists take part on the trauma rota and according to my new colleague they get called once every 2 days. The Facio-maxillary surgeons also take part in that rota and are payed, I understand on a sessional basis. In the mean time the A & E dept. proper sees over 500 patients. I don't think they help out when it is busy although I may be mistaken on that point although I doubt it.
When I came to the West Mids there used to be nearly 40 consultants. Every region had about 4 SR's and yet for every job in a DGH there were about 5 good applicants.
I'm still convinced that people are dropping out or going overseas from the SpR grade.
