italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Dear Colleagues,
I would like to draw your attention to a forthcoming conference to be
held at the University of Warwick on Friday 28th February and Saturday
1st March 2003.
Literature-Science: Between the Disciplines:
This conference will examine recent critical, theoretical and creative
approaches to thinking the intersections between both science and
literature, and science and society. It will provide a forum for
scholars and writers to speak from and about the space between the
disciplinary boundaries which is being rapidly filled by collaborative
and interdisciplinary works and interactive discourse. Attention will
be given to the language used to narrate and communicate developments in
scientific activity to an audience of non-specialists, as well as to the
ways in which scientific activity features in fiction. Presentations
and discussion will also focus on attempts to reveal the pockets of
subjectivity within science’s proclaimed objectivity—informed by
feminist and post-modern readings, for example—and will evaluate the
benefits of interdisciplinary approaches to creative work and knowledge
production.
Speakers include:
Dame Professor Gillian Beer
Professor Brian Follett
Dr Amanda Rees
Dr Jeff Wallace
Dr Daniel Cordle
Professor Ruth Chadwick
Professor Robert Crawford
Dr Lisa Appignanesi
Dr Felicity Mellor
Dr Deborah Steinberg
